Do you want to create a map poster, but don’t know how to do it? No worries, we’ve got you covered. This step-by-step guide will go through how you can design your own map within minutes.
After having read this blog post, you too will be able to create your own map poster
Step 1: Visit our editor
The first step in designing your own map poster is to go to our editor. If you’ve found this blog post, then you’re probably familiar with how to navigate our site, but if not, simply click the green or red button on our homepage, which can be seen in the image below.
Step 2: Pick a location
Once you enter our editor, you’ll be asked to pick a location. The location that you enter will be the motive for your poster (duh). You can search for any location on earth, even a single street name, such as your home address. In this case, I searched for New York.
PS. you can click the “surprise me” button to randomize different map designs all over the world
Step 3: Design it
Once you’ve selected your preferred location, it’s time to customize your map to actually make it yours. As of version 2.0, you can choose between eight new colors. Pick your favorite color combination or experiment to find one that you like.
Next step is to select a text layout that you like. You can choose between four styles: Classic, Modern, Neat and Elegant. In the example below, I’ve chosen a dark blue color as background with cream colored water. The text layout is Neat. As you can see, I’ve also zoomed the map to include Manhattan in the middle, Jersey city to the left and Brooklyn to the right, rather than all of New York City. But If I wanted to, I could zoom in on a single block or building in NYC.
Step 4: Edit labels & go to checkout
To make the map even more personal and to give it additional meaning to you, you can edit the text on the map. You can also choose to turn labels off, which will hide the text. In the example below, I replaced “New York” with “My hometown”. As tagline, I decided to show the coordinates.
Once you’re happy with the looks of your map, click the checkout button to go to the checkout. If you want to add another map, press that button instead and repeat step 1 to 4. You’ll get 25% off your second map and 50% off your third.
Step 5: Preview your order & checkout
Once in the checkout, preview your order one last time. If you wish to make some final changes, simply click “edit this poster” to get back to the editor and make some final changes.
If you are happy with the look of your map (which we hope that you are), simply enter your billing details and make a payment with your credit or debit card or with PayPal. Et voilá – that’s it! Your own map poster is now on it’s way to you! Good job!
